Homophobic Violence

Samuel Luiz, a 24 years old man, has been brutally murdared a week ago in A Coruña, in Spain, for being gay. He was standing next to the entrance of a nightclub with a friend while making a group video-call, when he was approached by two men who started threatening him on the grounds of his gender expression. His friend witnessed the beating that took place at three o’clock in the morning and the many homophobic insults addressed to Samuel. On Monday, July 5, several demonstrations took place all over Spain to denounce this unjustified aggression and make visible the mistreatment that members of the LGTBQIA+ community suffer every day.

At Women Now, we want to offer our full support to Samuel’s family and friends during this difficult time. We wish to join the social denouncement of this tragic event and the fight against all forms of discriminatory injustice. Together we can make the streets safe for everyone, but we must raise awareness of the pain and violence that threatens the most vulnerable communities today.
