Gender-based violence is a terrible experience for the women who go through it, especially for migrant women. Often, the latter do not dare to speak out and denounce the violence they suffer for fear of aggravating their already precarious situation, and for fear of losing their papers, their children, or quite simply, of being forcibly returned to their countries of origin.
That’s why, through the “Clair-Obscur” awareness campaign, WOMEN NOW wants to highlight the violence of which migrant women in Belgium are victims. For the first time, migrant women dare to speak out and give their testimonies in order to encourage other victims to denounce the violence they suffer from.
This Friday, the 2nd of December 2022, we had the pleasure of presenting the launch of “Clair-Obscur” in the venure Maison de Quartier Malibran, Ixelles (Brussels).
Throughout this event, we had the chance to count with the presence of guests such as the General Consul of Colombia in Brussels, Hernán Mauricio Cuervo Castellanos ; Pamela Acevedo, lawyer specialized in migrant and family law; Claire Cervello, and Renaud Beck, both responsible of the services “EVA” (Emergency Victim Assistance) of Brussels, and “SAPV” (Service d’assistance policière aux victimes) of Ixelles.
